India Squad Shake-Up: Gill, Siraj Miss Out, Iyer Doubtful
India’s squad has been shaken up due to Shubman Gill’s return rumors and players’ injuries. India is about to announce their squad for the Asia Cup 2025. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will announce the squad on 19 August in Mumbai. There have been many uncertainties regarding the India squad.
As the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup 2025 has been announced, India will now try to balance their squad. They will also try to add players who have a high strike rate and an aggressive mindset. However, it is a tough decision to miss out on some players.
Sanju, Abhishek Set to Open Again
Shubman Gill will likely miss out on the Asia Cup 2025. His performances in the Test series against England were exceptional. However, his chances in the squad are slim.
As an Indian Express report claimed:
“If Gill is included, then he will straight away bat at the top, and if he doesn’t get a game, then there is no point in having him. At the same time it will be unfair to Sanju, who did well in the past. If Gill gets in, then Sanju might have to miss out, and Jitesh might get a game,” a BCCI source informed the Express.
It is clear that Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will be the power openers in the team. It would be an unfair choice if they remove Sanju Samson. Shubman Gill has runs in the test format. However, he has not played any T20I series this year.
Shreyas Iyer competes in four-way fight
Shreyas Iyer competes in a four-way fight for a single spot. He is competing now for the 15th player spot. Keeping his stats in mind, he is a suitable batsman to fill out the middle order.
Shreyas Iyer scored 243 runs in five matches in the Champions Trophy 2025. His performance in the IPL 2025 was exceptional. He made 640 runs with a strike rate of 175 in 17 matches. His performance supports his selection in the squad. However, Riyan Parag and Washington Sundar are also big contenders.
Suryakumar and Rinku in the Middle Order
Shubman Gill is about to get out of the Asia Cup 2025. According to the Asia Cup 2025 schedule, there has not been much time remaining. BCCI has to make a decision soon.
Suryakumar Yadav is completely fit and will lead as a middle-order batsman.
Rinku Singh did not have a good international series last time. He can be dropped if Shreyas comes in. Washington Sundar and Riyan can also take his spot to fill the middle order.
Jaiswal Named as Third Opener Reserve
Jaiswal has got more chances than Shubman Gill to be selected for the Asia Cup 2025. Reports claim that he will be the third reserve opener in the squad. Jaiswal also scored high in the IPL 2025. His performance was up to the mark.
If India selects Shubman Gill, he will certainly play. If they add Shreyas Iyer, he will also get a spot in the playing XI. So, they will have to take all the decisions with a sharp mind. If they miss any player, their squad can shake up.
Bumrah Returns with Siraj missing out
Muhammad Siraj will also miss out on the Asia Cup 2025 after a successful series against England. His chances in the squad are not strong. He will also be out of the big tournament.
Bumrah has returned after the injury. He has recovered completely and will definitely play in the Asia Cup 2025. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh will also be part of this squad.
